2 Most Important Things to Remember When Sponsoring

Ouch, This took me a while to learn. But things have been going pretty good since I've changed my way of think. (Thank you Michael Oliver)

Most networkers want to sponsor a lot of people.

We all have great products and services, why won't anyone sign up?

We'll I've learned that it's kind of like getting into a hot bath when you talk to someone, you got to take it easy.

Ok 2 things.

1. Does the person have a problem? (Needs more money, can't get a raise, would like a vacaction or a new car, want's more time with the family, would like to move ect, ect., ect.)

With some careful questioning you can find this out. But wait...there's more.

2. Does this person want to do anything about it??

You might find that the person you are talking to has identified a problem, but doesn't show any desire to change the situation.

Why would you even present your opportunity to them??

Find out if there's a problem, then find out if they want to do anything about it.

It really is this simple.

Look What We Have Become...

So Step #1 was: Be nice.

Now for Step 2. Give them what they want.

Sounds easy enough. But most people don't know what they want.

They only know what they need.

Sure,they need better health, lower electricty bills, better phone service, more energy, more money, better dog food.ect. But everyone needs that.

A person that really wants something is motivated to get it. Appeal to that persons need, they are already motivated to get it.

How do you do this?

Just ask.

That's a whole different post though.

We get bombarded everyday by people shoving stuff in our face. I liken it to this clip from Mel Brooks' History of the World.

What we need is a new language.

One that speaks directly to your prospects wants.

Once you learn how to talk and ask the right questions.

It's a breeze.

That'll be the next time.

Give Your Prospect a Snake....?

So I'm trying to read and learn more everyday from those around me.

My favorite mentor as you can probably tell by previous posts is Tom "Big Al" Schreiter. I love his stuff.

But I've been going back through my library and found some good material.

Og Mandino's "The Greatest Salesman in the World." Lesson #1 was also taught to me by my grandson Ty.

Always love, be nice. And I thought, Jesus teaches this.

In Harry Browne's "The Secret to Selling Anything" he states "Find the prospects motivation and appeal to it." If you don't than you're not helping him.

Jesus taught this too. In Luke 11:11.

In "As a Man Thinketh" it states:

"Thought in the mind hath made us. What we are
By thought was wrought and built.If a mans mind
Hath evil thoughts,pain comes on him as comes
The wheel the ox behind...If one endure
In purity of thought,joy follows him
As his own shadow-sure."

And the scripture states in Phil 4:8

"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things."

1.Be Nice

2.Give them what they ask for not what you want to give them.

3.Be Positive.

How Do You Get Your Prospects to Listen to You?

So as you know by now, I’m a student of Tom “Big Al” Schreiter. So if you need to validate what I write. Just go to him as a reference. (www.fortunenow.com) He teaches anyone in any MLM company.

So what is it we want to do as “Professional” network marketers?

What is our job description?

Is it to make as many friends as possible on Facebook or Twitter?

Is it to organize our contacts list?

Chant positive affirmations and sing Koombaya?

These things are nice, but they don’t bring us a check in the mail.

That’s why we signed up isn’t it?

Our job description is to get people to make a decision about either our opportunity or products. That’s it.

So let’s focus on one of the first skills I learned from “Big Al”.

I don’t like rejection, I don’t like to do something hard or out of my comfort zone, I don’t like to be pushy & I don’t like to hyp-ee (Is that a word?)

So what could I say to get someone to make a decision about either my opportunity or products?

I know what you’re thinking. You’re waiting on the edge of your seat.

Your thinking this information better come at me with a golden shaft of light from above and a loud thunderous earthquake….Well, maybe your not thinking that last part.

But it’s a magic phrase I learned, and most people can’t resist it. In fact there’s an old saying that says…”When you use this magic sequence of words, people’s minds instantly belong to you.”

I just found out………

That’s it.

I just found out.

Your mind is mine now. “I just found out” is a sequence of words that makes your prospects stop and want to hear what your next words are going to be.

If you doubt me, go give it a try with a co-worker.

Just amble by their desk and say, “I just found out….” And watch what happens.

I know what you’re thinking again. Your thinking “How does this pertain to my business or product.” (Remember you mind is mine.)

I'll take it easy on you because this post is getting long.

“I just found out, how you can fire the boss and start your own business. If you’d ever like to know how, I’d be glad to tell you. Meanwhile, how about some coffee?”

“I just found out, how you can get an extra paycheck every month so you don’t have to work so hard.”

“I just found out how you can lose all the weight you want by eating cookies.”

I just found out….

well, you get the idea.

My Lessons are Finally Sinking In

Well, I'm back. It's been over a year since my last post. During that time I really didn't do much with my business. I listened to my mentors Tom Schreiter and Michael Dlouhy and tried to figure out which train of thought I should subscribe to.

1.) Most people do Network Marketing Everyday, but some just don't get paid for it.

or

2.) 95% of the people you talk to hate sales and aren't good prospects.

But then I realized. It's really both.

This information should not discourage me from talking to "family and friends" but I should also realize that maybe what I have to offer just isn't right for them at this particular time in their life. And when it is, I can be there with support training and help.Maybe these are the folks I bring in through the retail sale of prodcuts.

And my target market for my business, could be those that already believe in the industry. They just need to sharpen thier skills.

So with that out of the way. What to say to a person you want to introduce to your network marketing opportunity or products?

I've learned alot this last year. Icebreakers, Magic Sequences of Words, One Minute Presentations and 2 Minute Stories.

But the key is the other persons NEED and DESIRE.

For instance: I need to win the lottery, but I have no desire to get up off my butt and go buy a ticket.

Here's something you can say: "I just found out how you can get an extra paycheck every week so you don't have to work so hard.If you would ever like to know how, I'd be glad to tell you. Meanwhile, how about those playoffs last weekend?"

If they want to hear more, I tell them. If not, we talk about the playoffs.

Either way, I win.

There are alot of things to learn in this business. Skills that are important for your success.

Prosprcting and promoting are certainly crucial, but probably the most important thing you need to posses is a genuine, sincere heart to help others. It can't all be about you.

Kind of like stopping to help some stranger fix a flat tire, with no thought of being paid or having something given back to you.

Trust,Integrity,Honesty,Friendship.

There are other names for it, but just being a good person to others needs to be a starting point.

This is how bonds are build to last.

If you don't have these, your building on a shaky foundation.

Good resources on this topic can be found anywhere, you just need to want to find them.

I Got A Good Story...

People get excited when they join a network marketing opportunity. They see all the possibilities of owning there own lives. They get some product and believe in the pay plan.

And then the day comes.

They have to go out and sponsor someone into the business.

They have no clue what to say, so they wing it and get laughed at.

But if they knew what to say and how to say it, things could have been much easier.

One powerful way to do this is with a story, everybody likes a good story.

Stories have been capture peoples attention since the dawn of time.

So, what do you say?

How about this:

"I've got a good story, it takes about 2 minutes. It might make you alot of money, it might not.Do you want to hear it?"

If You're Still Not Convinced That MLM is about Relationships...Read this

I went to lunch today and noticed the current Sports Illustrated on the stands.

I opened up the magazine and came to this article by George Dohrmann title " You've got (too much) mail.

It's about how colleges use endless amounts of form letters and non personal mailings to try to get top prospects to come to their respective colleges.

Needless to say the colleges know that it's a wasteful effort, but since everyone else is doing it, why not them too?

Your Gonna Need More Chocolate!

It’s Easter morning, your 5 years old. You don’t know too much about what’s going on, but you know there will be candy, lot’s of candy.

You come across a chocolate bunny, your folks tell you it’s all yours. Your mouth begins to water and you can hardly wait to sink your teeth into it.

As you bite off the ear, it comes off surprisingly easy. You notice that there’s not much substance to the chocolate. You look down and see that it’s hollow!

And this is happening to countless people everyday when they get involved in network marketing.

The company they get involved with sounds great, the product or service is something every warm blooded person should have in their home.

They see the dollar signs in front of their eyes and picture and early retirement on the beach.

But just like the Chocolate Easter Bunny, their opportunity more often than not, is hollow.

In order to avoid being disappointed, keep these factors in mind.( They’re called “The 5 Pillars to Success”)

1. The company leaders don’t have any MLM experience or integrity.
(Just Google their Names to find out.)
2 .The products, while good, are way over priced.
($8.00 for a bar of soap?)

3. The compensation plan doesn’t pay the average person anything worth while.
4. The timing in the marketplace is long gone.

But most importantly

5. The company has no system of training for it’s distributors.

These are all things to consider when deciding if network marketing is right for you.

Remember the chocolate bunny and you’ll never have that hollow feeling with MLM

Know Who You Are Talking To.

If you walked into a room of 5 year olds and you wanted to get a message accross to them like say...

"It's time to eat!"

How would you say it?

Would you say:

"The chef has prepared a gourmet 7 course meal that I feel you would enjoy. He will be starting off with a special salad that took 20 years to perfect, accompanied by a glass of milk from a unique species of cow that only gives milk every other leap year.And finishing off with a desert made from the magical non fattening chocolate from the enchanted bakeries in Germany."

or

"Hey guys who wants to eat some chocolate?!"

Well it's the same when you talk to your prospects.

Are you hitting them over the head with details of your comp plan, names of your heavy hitters,charts and photos of your company's headquarters?

Or are you finding out what their needs / wants are?

Something to think about.

Be Aware of What You Say to Your Prospects

A lot of us get into this industry and we're pretty excited.

Kind of like the excitement we had when we got our first bike. We knew we could ride it but we didn't have the skills yet.

We know we have a winner with our opportunity,all we have to do is tell a few friends and family and we're on easy street.

That is until we get laughed at, rejected and humiliated by everyone we talk to.

But what is it that you are saying to get people to sign up?

What skills are you utilizing to win people over.

If you don't know, then it's just like falling off that bike as a kid.

Here's a quick example:

Man: "Every time I look at you...time stands still."

Ladies, that works pretty good eh??

How about this?

Man: "Your face...could stop a clock."

HMM? Is this how we talk when we're presenting our opportunities?

Something to think about until next time.

Instead of saying: "I have this wonderful company and this wonderful product that does wonderful things and will make you wonderfully rich."

Try this: " I just found out how you could earn and extra paycheck every week so you don't have to work so hard."

I get approached by networkers almost everyday. Each one is trying to promote their opportunity.They talk about their companies and products and pay plans and lose my interest at "hello"
And it strikes me as funny how they never seem to realize that this type of prospecting doesn't work.

So what does work?

I've found that simple stories have helped me do my prospecting.

A person let's down their guard when you tell a story.

They aren't thinking about being sold to, they put themselves into the story.

You want someone to listen to you?

Tell a good story.

The Longest Journey You'll Ever Take.

My father used to ask me why I was so stubborn.

"I never really thought about it." I told him.

He said, "Have you ever considered thinking about it? It would probably be a nice journey...that 6 inches between your ears."

And quite honestly, I never did,not even for a moment.

I Knew You Were Going to Read This Post, 7 Seconds Ago!

So I went to a Tom "Big Al" Schrieter work shop a few months ago in Portland.

He started talking about the subconscious mind, filters we all have and that I only have 30 seconds to build report with my prospects.

Uh...What??

He said there was a study done that showed how people's choices were made by their subconscious mind 7 seconds before they even made their choice!

So how in the heck do I get around this?

Well, first. I have to make sure I communicate with the prospects subconscious mind and I bypass any filters they may have. Filters like, Will this kill me? or Is this guy a salesman?

And I only have 30 Seconds.

So what I say has to be inline with what the person belives.

"We all work really, really hard."
"And then when we're old we get to retire one year before we die."

So far so good. Now I drop the hammer.

"But some people have figured out a way to retire 5 years early at full pay."

No harm , no foul, If the prospect is interested they may say ,

"Oh, really, how's that work?" Then I point them to my opportunity.

And if they aren't interested , I don't worry about it.

I think I can say those 3 lines in about 10 seconds and I have an extra 20 to spare!

Why am I Doing This?

I was just re reading Michael Dlouhy’s e book “Success in 10 Steps”. I came across a concept that eluded me for many years.

I couldn't’t nail down my “Why”.

(Probably because I never took the time to think about it.)

Why am I doing Network Marketing?

This, for me anyhow,was such a crucial first step.

I struggled with this for years. …Why?

Yes, sure, financial freedom and time freedom. But those are a bit vague.

Then I asked myself, “Why am I currently doing the job I’m doing?”

To be honest, I didn’t know the answer to that either. I just kind of fell into it. I was a rudderless ship. Any port I drifted into was home.

I didn’t like the sound of that.

But up until now that’s how I’ve always lived my life.

In school, in the military, in my career.

But not in my Network Marketing career!

Why do I do Network Marketing?

What is the driving force that keeps me striving for success in this field?

Michael asks the question in Chapter 2.

And here are some questions that will help you figure out your "why".

-What gets you REALLY excited?

·How many hours a week do you work?

·What do you LOVE about your job?

·What do you HATE about your job?

·What do you do with your free time?

·If you had 2 months vacation and all the money you wanted, what would you

do?

·How do you like the people you work with?

·What problem scares you to death that more money could solve?

·What do you just absolutely HATE about your life that more money could solve?

·If you had all the money you needed, what HUGE problem would go away?

·If you had all the TIME in the world to do anything you wanted, what would you

do?

·Other than money, what are you looking for?

And of course having your “Why” is important, but it’s just the start.

But having done this, you will have a firm grasp in your mind and won’t let anything make you quit.

And that’s the one sure way to fail in this industry.

Get your “why”, and then start learning some skills, then apply those skills and then help others do the same.

What Is Your Prospect Looking At When You Show Them Your Opportunity?

We finally get someone to listen to us about our great opportunity. We shower them with power point presentations, slide shows, brochures and websites.

We've told them all about the wonderful products and how they can get your broken down truck running again, your dog to come back and your wife to leave. (Or is that the other way around.)

We've told them that the company has 10,000 employees (Who all need to be paid) A warehouse bigger than Rhode Island (Which needs to be heated/cooled), A CEO that is a great family man (he has 4 families to prove it) and it is publicly traded. (Investors that will get paid before you do.)

After all is said and done. Did we really hit on the points that our prospect was concerned about?

How Do You Influence Others?

I reading a good book right now titled "Maximum Influence" by Kurt W. Mortensen.

He gives a quick story in the beginning of the book that really puts things into perspective if you are trying to get people to listen to you and what you offer. Here's a version of it

Once the Wind and the sun came to have a quarrel. Either of them claimed to be a stronger. At last they agreed to have a trial of strength.

"Here comes a traveller. Let us see who can strip him of his cloak," said the Sun.

The Wind agreed and chose to have the first turn. He blew in the hardest possible way. As a result , the traveller wrapped his cloak even more tightly around him.

Then it was the turn of the Sun. At first he shone very gently. So, the traveller loosened his cloak from his neck.

The sun went on shining brighter and brighter. The traveller felt hot. Before long he took off his cloak and put it in his bag. The Wind had to accept his defeat.

What I took from this is: Understand what your prospects needs, wants and desires may be. Then give them a message that will lead them to open up their minds to what you have to offer.

Don't be a " blow hard" .......er, I mean the wind.

So I went and listened to Tom "Big Al" Schreiter this week. Boy what an experience. If you get the chance, take in one of his workshops. You'll find a schedule here

I've heard him say it before but it never sunk in.

You have to learn the skills to be successful in MLM. Heck, if you want to be successful in anything you have to learn the skills.

Listen to what one of my childhood heroes has to say about "Skills"

"A winner is someone who recognizes his God-given talents, works his tail off to develop them into skills, and uses these skills to accomplish his goals."

But I'm really a guy who needs pictures and stories and probably one that watches too much T.V. at times. But remember this movie..Cast Away?

Lost on a desert island, No phones, no lights, no motor car, not single luxury. (Stay with me here)

He gets tired of eating coconuts and decides to try making a fire. And you don't need any pictures here, but he made some painful mistakes.

But his mistakes led him to learn a valuable lesson. A lesson that he recognized and developed and used to accomplish his goal. FIRE!!!

Are You Sure You Want to Get On That Ship Son?

I came home the other day and Titanic was showing on one of the cable stations.

I remembered it being a pretty moving story when it first came out. I still wonder why Leonardo DiCaprio didn't jump on the floating door with his girlfriend, but I'm getting off the subject.

People believed the ship was unsinkable, even when it was sinking!

It was a majestic ship to be sure, but would it sink?..... when pig's fly! (We all know the outcome.)

But what if they had known before hand about the design? Would it have changed their minds?

Maybe, Maybe not.

But what if they would have known about the sub-standard metal to make the ship? The total number of lifeboats that were available? Would they have at least raised an eyebrow?

What if they would have had more information?

Well, not to bum you out.

But how does this apply to your MLM business?

Is your Opportunity billed as the best? The pay plan...the best? Your product...the best? Your company headquarters, staff, leadership? The best?

How can you get more information so that you'll know? So that you won't someday go down with the ship?

Some Easy Questions That Answer All Your MLM Problems?

When looking for a company, you want to ask yourself at least these 2 questions? Because these are the same 2 questions the Attorney General for Uncle Sam will ask.

1. Would a logical thinking person spend this money for this product or service ,if there wasn't a compensation plan attached to it?

2. When the recruiting stops, does the income stop?

It's that simple.

So you'll want to be in a company that promotes retailing a product at a good price, and that pays you a good commission on that sale.

If you are not sure, an easy way to check if your product is overpriced is to go to Ebay.

If it's being sold on Ebay pretty cheap, then someone is trying to unload product that they spent way too much on in the first place.

(And of course the company makes out in the end.)

And if you don't make any money selling and retailing that just leaves recruiting.

MLM stats tell us that the average networker only ever sponsors 2.7 people into the business.

You may have alot of work ahead of you.

Sure you may make a big one time bonus when you bring someone into the business, but aren't you looking for the lifetime residual income that MLM offers so you don't have to work?

Do you really want to be out there doing "Vampire Marketing", always looking for new blood?

It's not that hard to understand MLM if you know what to look for.

I Will Be Your Knight In Shining Armor,Coming to Your Emotional Rescue

When we are out prospecting,we need to understand that people make their decisions based on an emotional level, not a practical level.

Need proof.

Tom "Big Al" Schreiter asked this question on his website.

"If there were an operation that made you smarter, but also made your butt bigger, would you have the operation?"

Enough said.

So instead of telling people of residual income and time freedom ,

Focus on their emotional needs.

Firing the boss, golfing all day while your buddies slave away, traveling to exotic places, moving away from those annoying neighbors, going to a Rolling Stones concert!

Be their knight in shining armor coming to their emotional rescue!

Once you have them on board with you , get them plugged into Mentoring For Free and teach them how to think , not what to think.

Tough times come to all of us in one way or another, but in MLM you run across people who might have suffered because of some misplaced trust.

The Words Aren't That Important....Are They?

We educate and teach at Mentoring For Free the importance of knowing what is said in your policies and procedures of your respective MLM company.

Some take this for granted, thinking "Why do I need to know all that stuff."

It is your contract with your company.

But here's some thing to think about.

And it's not meant to be political one way or the other.

But did you watch the inauguration?

Did you see the swearing in?

It's just words? Why did the President Elect hesistate?

Were the words not given to him properly?

Should he have said it wrong anyway? They're just words right?

The oath of office of the President of the United States is an oath or affirmation required by the United States Constitution before the President begins the execution of the office. The wording is specified in Article Two, Section One, Clause Eight):

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

Just words..........Or are they?

What You Don't Know, That You Don't Know...

First off I'm all about giving credit where credit is due. I got the title to this post from John Milton Fogg's "The Greatest Networker in the World". It's a must read.

But he tells a story of a young monk that thinks he has the world by the tail.

He's out smarted all the other monks he's come across and now he meets one of the most prestigious and knowledgeable monks around, a true master.

He tells him of all the other monks he has bested and he wants to learn under the older monks tutelage.

The older monk starts to pour tea while the younger monk is talking. Then as the younger monk is gabbing on and on, the older monk keeps pouring the hot water until it spills out into the lap of the young student.

The young monk cries in pain and amazement "Stop pouring! What are you doing? You're burning me! The cup is overflowing!"

The older monk tells him.

"Go away from me young man. I have nothing to teach you. Your cup is too full...overflowing with all you know and all that you think you don't know. Come back to me when your cup is empty and you are ready to receive what I have to give."

Hmm, kind of sounds like how I was in my network marketing business before I came across Michael Dlouhy and Mentoring for Free.

I knew my company was the best, my products couldn't be beat. I knew the opportunity I offered was the wave of the future. You had to be brain dead not to understand what my opportunity offered.

I had a lot of these books as a child. "Green Eggs & Ham" , "The Cat in the Hat", "Horton Hears a Who"...But the one that I like to go back and read and learn from is "Oh! The Places You'll Go!"

We as network marketer have a lot in common with this story.

And it's funny how a little story like this, when you really think about it, dove tails nicely with Mentoring for Free's 30 Day Mental Cleans. We All Want What MLM Offers. But Will We Do Anything About It?

I hear it everyday from the people I work with to those close to me and from anyone in between.

Everyone wants to be "free".

I hear the question, "What would you do if you won the lottery?"

Most people's first response is "I'd quit my job."

And the funny thing is that for most people their job is their main source of income. It keeps food on the table and clothes on their back.

So I'll ask them, "Are you married to your job?, or are you open minded?"

We all want to be free, to go where we want to go and do what we want to do. But there comes a point in every person's life , wether they recognize it or not. They have to make a decision. A decision to do something. There's two parts here.

1. Deciding to start.

2. Starting.

MLM provides so many opportunities to people, time freedom, money freedom, peace of mind, self improvment.

But just like anything in life. A person has to take action.

Want to lose weight? ........(Decide)................Eat less, move more...........(Action).

Want to quit your job and start an MLM business?...........(Decide)............Continue to recommend and promote things you like to others and pick up your check..........(Action)

It's simplicity makes it hard to grasp. It's in the action of doing their business that most people have a hard time. Because they need to develop certain skills and attitudes to get their businesses off the ground.

It All Starts With Belief

If you have ever wondered how people throughout history have been able to accomplish the exrtraordianary things they have done, it all started with a belief.

Belief in a concept, thought or idea was the reason. Once this belief was backed by a burning desire to succeed, the the fruition of this idea was bound to happen.

It sounds a little "out there" but we teach it to our kids in the story of the "Little Engine That Could." We see it on the movie screen in all the "Rocky" movies, not to metion all the songs that promote the concept of believing in yourself.

As this pertains to your business, it's vital that you believe in yourself. Your reason for doing this business, your "why". And once you believe you can't stop there. You must go out and do the actions that will get you to your desired destination. The belief is just the begining. The action is where the rubber meets the road.

And once you start seeing positive results, the belief gets stronger and the actions get easier, it's an upward spiral.

Know Your Own Personality

I was just reminded about this concept by reading a fellow networkers blog post. "Know thy self" what a deep concept. But until you do this, building relationships with others is going to be difficult.

It's one thing to know their personality, but you should know yours too. This subject has been talked about for centuries starting with Hippocrates, I don't know much, but if I remember he was a pretty smart guy, in any time. People like Carl Jung and Florence Littauer did extensive research on this subject. So it behooves us as "relationship builders" to at least take a look at what they were talking about.

To make things simple there are 4 different pesonality types. We all have a little of each personality in us, but one personality is the dominate one.

Yellows- The nurturers. 35% of the population are this type of personality. Their motto is"Let me take care of you."

Blues- Just want to have fun. 15% of the population. Thier motto is " Fun, fun, fun till daddy takes the T-bird away." (This is where I fit in.)

Greens- Analyzers-35% of the population. Their motto is, " Let me analyze the information."

and Finally

Reds- The Generals-15% of the population. Their motto is," Give me the ball and get out of the way."

Now if you don't think this is important. Think of this example. You have a Red and a Yellow shopping for a gift for someone they know. The Yellow is all about how nice it will be to shop and look at all the "foo-foo" gifts we can buy. The Red says, let's get them a gift card and go.

If you're either one of these people you would be frustrated with the other becuase you don't know their personality type, but even more so if you didn't know your own. What if you swapped these two out and put in a Green and a Blue personality?

You get the picture.

What Kind of Skills Do You Have?

There was a story I read about a fellow that got hired on to be a lumberjack. He didn't care about sharpening his ax, he just knew that to make alot of money all he had to do was chop down alot of trees. When he finally realized he could chop the trees down faster with a sharper blade, he went into the hardware store to have his ax sharpened.

The owner of the store looked at him a little funny and asked, "Why are you still using an ax? Here's a chainsaw, it will make things a lot easier for you." The lumberjack left feeling happy and excited.

He returned to the store later that day and looked angry and haggard. "You said this chainsaw would make things easier for me, but I still haven't cut down a single tree! " The store owner walked over and took a look at the saw, reached down and pulled on the chord.

ZZZRROOOMMM!!

The chainsaw came to life and the store owner put it down. "There's nothing wrong with this saw." He told the lumberjack.

The lumberjack's eyes where still big as saucers as he stated, "I didn't know that's how it worked!"

This is a cute story, but as you are trying to build your business are you working like the lumberjack in this story?

It's all about your skills, learn them and be successful. Learn about compensation plans, people's personalities, policies and procedures of companies. Learn about the 5 pillars of a successful MLM company.

Will You Marry Me?.......Oh, and sign this Pre-nupt.

This is going to seem pretty common sense, but most people by-pass this part of their opportunity with out a second thought, or first thought for that matter. What I'm talking about here is your company's Policies and Procedures. It may seem like a lot of hassle to read, but it's what governs how you do your business and there's some stuff in there that you need to know about if you want to be successful in your business.

Ask yourself this question if you don't believe reading your policies and procedures are important. "Would I enter into a conventional business deal with anyone, without first reading the terms of our agreement?" Hmm? there might be some provisions in the agreement that could restict you. Like what you ask?

Here's a section taken from a company who will remain anonomyous:

A Distributor’s violation of any of the terms of the Agreement, including any amendments that may be made by xxxxxxxx in its sole discretion, may result in any of the sanctions listed in Section 8.1, including the involuntary cancellation of his or her Distributor Agreement.

So if you don't comply to the agreement, you can get shut out of your own business at anytime. You might want to read your P & P's.

Here's some more this falls under the ongoing sales section:

Regardless of their level of achievement, Distributors have an ongoing obligation to continue to personally promote sales through the generation of new customers and through servicing their existing customers.

What if you decide you want to take a break from your business? What about all the residual income you were promised? You better keep selling. But more importantly you better read your policies and procedures!

Kung Fu Panda and MLM

My girlfriend and I took her grandson to the movies over the weekend. We went and watched "Kung Fu Panda" it was a great story. But it really hit home with a message we all must have in order to be successful. I won't ruin the movie for you, but the main message I took home from the show was this, ....belief in yourself.

You can have the greatest opportunity. The best company and products since the dawning of the industry. You can have everything you need to be succeesful, but if you don't believe in at least yourself then your dead in the water. I'm not talking about the same kind of belief it takes to go to a 9-5, 40 hour a week job. I'm talking about the belief it takes to strike out on your own. Learn the skills of your trade, train for your moments and then to execute like it was as natural as breathing.

Yes it was a cute,cuddly kids show, but I took home a valuable lesson. Stop and take time to believe in you. This Fella Knows How to Get Results!

So I'm walking into work from the parking lot the other day and I see this stranger approach me. He has a kind look on his face and very peaceful sense about him. He acknowledges me with a nod and I do like wise. But there was something about his mannerisms that made me feel comfortable, I couldn't get over it.

Later on in the day I hear coworkers talking about this fellow they met in the parking lot. People are buying him lunch and he's giving them the same sense of well being. I wasn't jealous, but just felt privlidged to have run into the fellow. Come to find out he doesn't have a home and is just kind of wandering through. One person even took him home over the week and and to the doctor to make sure he was in good health.

Who was this person, what strange power did he have over me and my co-workers?

He was a stray dog.

He came up to us with no outside agenda and he took care of our needs. What need was that? The need to feel at peace, the need to care and the need to love.

The lesson I learned from this animal again is that this business isn't about my plans( although you should have them.) It's about caring for others. When you get to that place where you care about others, they'll know. The saying "Dog's know who to bite." really rings true here.

Be sincere, build the relationship and fill the persons needs. The rest takes care of itself.

What This Business Is All About.

I got an email from someone today. I don't know where they got my address, probabaly off some list they purchased. But the person starts in on how their business opportunity is the "Best". In fact they're so sure of it, they say they'll join someone else's business if it can be shown to be better.

If I had a nickel for everytime I got that one. But here's the thing. I don't know these people from Adam. With that in mind, how far do you think I can trust them? And being put on the spot like that really doesn't give me too many warm feelings about them. Know, Like & Trust.

People join people.

Sure there are tons of company's out there with great products. But ultimately, people join you because of the relationship you have with them. The person that sponsored me built that relationship. She gained my trust as I began to get to know her and I like doing business with people like that. I believe the majority of people in this world like it that way.

So keep this in mind when you're out looking for prospects. It's not about you and your wonderful company. It's about them and thier needs. He that can do this has the whole world with him. He who cannot walks a lonely way.

Having the Right Mindset.

I don't know how many times I've started "Think and Grow Rich" by Napolean Hill. I have this habit of taking in too much information and not storing it properly. My mentor would probably point out that my personality type is very "Blue".

But in the first chapter alone there is a powerful concept, thoughts are things. If you have a mind set of poverty, then that's what you get. If you learn to switch your mindset to that of abundance then that's what you will have in your life.

An important point for me has been that before I start doing anything, (like my MLM business), I must know what I want. Create a plan to get there and move with purpose towards my goal until I achieve it.

I guess what I'm trying to say is something Micheal Dlouhy does everyday with Mentoring for Free and his Mental Cleanse. You've got to get your mind right.

Going Fishing Anytime Soon? This May Help.

I'll try to keep this post short and too the point. I picked up my copy of "How to Win Friends & Infulence People" by Dale Carnegie. In chapter 3 he talks about his like for strawberrys and cream, but as this pertains to when he goes fishing, it just didn't make any sense. Why would anyone put strawberries and cream at the end of thier fishing line? He gave the fish what they wanted, grasshoppers and worms and he got the fish on the line.

Think of how you can apply this to your business. When it comes to prospecting, don't think of what you want when you're speaking to someone. Find out what their desires are and then offer to assist them in attaining them with your opportunity.

The same goes with retailing. Say for example you are selling a weight loss product. Who are the best people to talk to? Find people that have a desire to lose weight! Arouse in them an eager want,then fill the order. Remember though, some people may need your product or opportunity,but they don't want it. Don't waste your energy trying to get them hooked.

Hmm, why aren't more people participating in network marketing? This is a question I've been asked by a lot of my friends and family when I've approached them about getting involved with network marketing. Of course it's asked in a tone of sarcasm and negativity, but it still requires and answer, and the answer is some what surprising for most people.

The simple fact of the matter there are more people doing network marketing than you'd expect. In fact my mentor Tom "Big Al" Schreiter puts it this way.

Most people do network marketing everyday,but they just don't get paid for it.

Huh? This is a mind boggling statement. But it's true.

Network marketing is nothing more than recommending and promoting things we like.

Want proof?

Ask your friend about the next big summer blockbuster movie coming out and they'll go on and on about how you need to get down to the theater to see it. They tell you all the details and get you interested in going down and paying the $9.00 bucks to get in the doors. Of course you buy the inexpensive pop and popcorn as well and you see the movie.

You are so impressed by the show that the next day a work you tell all your co workers about it. They take your recommendation and head on down to the theater with their families. And of course they pay the $9.00 bucks to get in and they purchase the pop and popcorn.

Now here's the Million dollar question. If they liked the movie as well as you did, do you think they'll tell others about it?

And at the end of the month does the theater owner show up at your doorstep with a word of mouth advertising bonus check made out to you?

No? Why not? You promoted the film. You made him a bundle. Shouldn't you get a little compensation for your work?

The fact of the matter is you did the work, you just didn't get paid.

Now where would a person be able to utilize and opportunity like this in the real world?
